NYS Inspections & Emissions
New York State safety and emissions inspection, done on site.
Every K&K location is a registered New York State inspection station, so your annual safety and emissions inspection is done in-house rather than sent somewhere else.
The safety portion covers brakes, steering and suspension, tires, lights, wipers, mirrors, horn, seat belts and the windshield. The emissions portion reads your vehicle’s onboard diagnostic system and checks that the required monitors have completed and no emissions faults are stored.
If something fails, we tell you exactly what failed and what it takes to pass before any work starts. Nothing gets repaired without your approval.
Signs to watch for
- Your inspection sticker has expired or expires this month
- The check engine light is on — that is an automatic emissions failure
- You just bought the car and it needs a New York inspection
- A warning light, cracked windshield or worn tire you know will be flagged
When to have it done
- Once every twelve months, by the last day of the month on your sticker
- Within ten days of registering a vehicle newly brought into New York
- Before selling privately, so the buyer inherits a current sticker
What K&K does
- Full New York State safety inspection
- OBD-II emissions inspection and monitor readiness check
- Sticker issued on site the same visit
- Written explanation of anything that failed, with a price before work begins
