A/C & Heating
Performance testing, leak detection, recharge and repair.
Air conditioning is a sealed system. If it is low on refrigerant, it is low because it leaked, and simply topping it up means you will be back next summer with the same problem and a larger repair.
We test system performance, then use dye and electronic leak detection to find where refrigerant is escaping — usually a condenser, a hose fitting, a compressor shaft seal or an evaporator. We repair the leak, evacuate the system to pull out moisture, and recharge by weight to the exact factory specification.
On the heating side, the usual causes of no heat are a low coolant level, a stuck thermostat, a blocked heater core or a failed blend door actuator — all of which we test for rather than guess at.
Signs to watch for
- Air that is cool but not cold, or cold only when the car is moving
- A/C that works, then stops working after twenty minutes
- Musty smell from the vents when you first turn it on
- No heat, or heat only when the engine is revving
- Clicking from the compressor clutch cycling rapidly
When to have it done
- Check in spring, before the first hot week when everyone else calls
- As soon as cooling drops off — running a low system damages the compressor
- Cabin air filter once a year to keep airflow and smells in check
What K&K does
- Vent temperature and high/low side pressure testing
- Electronic and UV dye leak detection to find the actual leak
- Compressor, condenser, evaporator and hose repair
- Evacuate to remove moisture, then recharge by weight to specification
- Heater core, thermostat, blend door and blower motor repair
